چکیده

First discovered in 1961 by Francois Jacob and Jacques Monod in Paris, regulation genes are a type of gene that provides the instructions for creating proteins which help control the expression of other structural genes. These genes play a key role in gene expression. From the DNA level to the protein level, we see that the protein coding genes, which occupy a small percentage of the genome, are being regulated in three levels.

Work in progress - Student learning as a function of attendance in large engineering classes

This study documents an alternative for freshman engineering students to attending a large lecture in their introductory engineering course. In the fall semester students are required to be physically present in lecture. In the spring semester students are given the option of either being physically present, when the lecture is given, or viewing the recorded lecture. Attendance is recorded in t...

Lecture Notes #13: Reliability & Structural Equation Modeling 13-1

These lecture notes present some basic intuitions underlying structural equations modeling (SEM). If you find this technique useful in your research, I suggest that you take a semester-long course on SEM and/or hierarchical linear model (HLM). It turns out that SEM and HLM are essentially the same technique but some things are easier to implement in one versus the other so disciplines tend to f...

Probability Theory 1 Lecture Notes

These lecture notes were written for MATH 6710 at Cornell University in the Fall semester of 2013. They were revised in the Fall of 2015 and the schedule on the following page re ects that semester. These notes are for personal educational use only and are not to be published or redistributed. Almost all of the material, much of the structure, and some of the language comes directly from the co...

Introduction to Computational Biology Lecture # 7: Motif finding using HMM

Usually, we would like to build a profiled HMM based on a given set of m sequences: x1, . . . , x 1 n1 , . . . , x m 1 , . . . , x m nm . Notice that if we have observed the compatible hidden states H 1 , . . . ,H 1 n1 , . . . ,H m 1 , . . . ,H m nm than we could calculate π and τ within two simple steps: D → {Nst, Nsa} → Θ̂ (D represents our complete data: the sequences and the compatible hidde...
